Manchester Metrolink services to MediaCityUK and Eccles were suspended for 10 hours on Friday 30th January 2026 following the discovery of a fault with the overhead line near to Salford Quays.
The first reports of the problem were made at 0537 and immediately led to all trams to both MediaCityUK and Eccles being cancelled. The usual service from Ashton-under-Lyne was instead terminated short at Deansgate-Castlefield. Pomona continued to be served by trams heading onto the Trafford Park line.
Following repairs power was returned from 1400 with a service resuming soon after, albeit initially with delays as the service was fully reformed.
Ian Davies, TfGM’s Interim Director for Metrolink, said: “I want to apologise for the disruption that this incident has caused passengers today. Specialist engineers have been working hard onsite throughout the day to repair the damaged overhead line as quickly as possible to get the network back up and running.
“Trams are now running between Eccles and Ashton-under-Lyne with minor delays, though services are expected to return to normal as we go into the afternoon peak.”
