555 010 and 555 011 have become the sixteenth and seventeenth of the new trains being built for the Tyne and Wear Metro to arrive in northeast England. The two trains came exactly the same way as the previous fifteen with them being transported all the way by rail, including a trip through the Channel Tunnel.
These two trains arrived in the early hours on Friday 11th April 2025. Once again they were moved by RailAdventure as far as the Network Rail/Tyne and Wear Metro boundary at Pelaw from where they were collected by already commissioned examples of the Stadler built trains and moved to Gosforth Depot.
Now they’re at Gosforth they will be commissioning ahead of testing and then an entry into service at some point in the future.
So far, of the 17 units on Metro metals, eight have carried passengers with the others either under test or initial commissioning. The phased introduction of the fleet should see 23 of the trains in service by the end of 2025, with the remaining 23 following by the end of 2026.
