New Metro trains latest subject of prolific YouTuber’s videos

Geoff Marshall – who came to prominence in 2017 when he visited all 2,563 stations in Great Britain – has recently paid a visit to northeast England where he sampled the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains in service for the first time. And the results of his visit have now been uploaded to his YouTube channel.

He took a ride on one of the trains on Wednesday 19th March, going from Newcastle Central station to South Shields and then back via the North Tyneside coastal loop.

Michael Richardson, Head of Fleet and Depot Programme at Nexus, said: “We were delighted to welcome Geoff Marshall on our new trains and look forward to his film appearing on his popular YouTube channel.  Geoff is a prolific railway content creator and YouTuber, whose videos have had clocked up millions of views. Working with content creators and influences is a great way for us to showcase our new Metro trains to a wide audience,”

So far, seven of the eventual 46 strong class of trains have entered service with further examples being used for testing and training purposes. They are in the process of a phased introduction with the plan being that by the end of 2025 half will be in service. All 46 are being built in Switzerland by Stadler and will bring new levels of comfort to the network as part of £362 million investment.
