Old and New – Blackpool: North Albert Street

The last in the current series of “Old and New – Blackpool” comes to us as we again see two photos of the old and new tramway and this time we go north to Fleetwood.

This first photo shows Jubilee 762 just after its come out of Pharos Street and onto North Albert Street towards the start of its full length timetabled journey to Starr Gate. The tram was carrying a brightly coloured advertising livery for Unison which it had between July 2005 and January 2009 – this was its second ad for Unison with a previous advert being on the tram between 2002 and 2004. The tram was photographed on 2nd September 2008.

Despite the fact the tramway has now been upgraded to modern light rail standards the layout at Pharos Street into North Albert Street remain similar and here we see 001 doing the same manoeuvre as it comes out into North Albert Street on the way to Starr Gate. The main difference is that whereas before it would have started on Fleetwood Esplanade and already called at a stop in Pharos Street it now starts back on Bold Street and doesn’t have a stop until Victoria Street. This was 28th May 2017. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior)
