A 3 year old girl has tragically lost her life after she was hit by a van which had collided with a tram on Mosley Street in Manchester City Centre. The incident happened just before 1000 on Saturday 22nd February 2025 with the girl taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.
According to local reports the van hit the tram and following the impact mounted the pavement where the girl was. The van driver then fled the scene with Greater Manchester Police confirming that they were following several lines of inquiry in order to find the driver.
The incident happened at the junction between Mosley Street and Nicholas Street/Booth Street which is on the section of track between St Peter’s Square and Piccadilly Garden. This is one of several side junctions along Mosley Street, being just by Manchester Art Gallery.
From photos of the scene M5000 3132 was the tram involved in the incident.
As a result of the incident no trams were able to travel between St Peter’ Square and Piccadilly Gardens. Services from Altrincham and the Airport were diverted via 2CC with the service which usually runs from Altrincham to Piccadilly also diverted this way and terminated at Victoria. Ashton-under-Lyne services were terminated at Piccadilly and the Bury to Piccadilly service was extended to Etihad Campus.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident.
