15 Years Apart: Blackpool Balloon 723

And we continue with “15 Years Apart” once more.

On 6th September 2009 we are at Burlington Road West on Blackpool’s New South Promenade as Balloon 723 heads along the tramway towards Starr Gate. This was the last few days that this section of line would remain open as part of the traditional tramway with it closing to allow upgrade work and the construction of the new depot at Starr Gate itself. With wet weather having been around the pantograph grease has streamed down the tram which was in a version of the 1980s green and cream livery.

Green and cream but different version of it for 723 on 28th September 2024 as its seen at North Pier with a heritage service. Its now got a coat of 1990s fleet livery, including the black window surrounds, and also has replica destination blinds of the same period. The tram is now part of the heritage fleet.
