Puppets to take centre stage in Metro campaign ahead of introduction of new ticket machines

With the West Midlands Metro set to see the new ticket machines, which have been installed at stops across the network over the past few months, switched on for the first time this autumn, a new publicity campaign has been announced – complete with Metro puppets taking the lead!

Wes and Mindy with become familiar faces across the network as part of the change in way to pay for tickets on the Metro is introduced and beyond the introduction of the ticket machines they will also become stars of social media channels, helping to promote the benefits of tram travel and keeping people updated ahead of more extensions during the network next year.

Michael Reading-Skilton, Head of Commercial at West Midlands Metro, said: “As we approach another milestone in the evolution of our network, we’re excited to introduce Wes and Mindy as the newest members of the Metro team. Their names are a playful nod to the region we serve, and their look reflects the vibrant communities across the region.

“Together they’ll help customers to familiarise themselves with the new and convenient way to buy their tickets to travel on the tram and the importance of buying a ticket before they board, while showcasing the convenience and accessibility of our services.”

The two characters have their own personalities according to the press release. Wes has a curious and energetic spirit, with a passion for travel and a constant eagerness to explore the network, always being ready for the next adventure. Meanwhile, Mindy is a creative and thoughtful character who enjoys expressing herself through various forms of art, bringing a unique artistic perspective to every journey.

A date of the switch-on of the new ticket machines has yet to be set with them currently undergoing testing and commissioning.
