Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Barlow Moor Road

Another outing to Manchester for “Then & Now” as we see images of Metrolink before and after the trams arrived.

We move away from the city centre and on to the Manchester Airport line for this set of images. We’re at the Barlow Moor tramstop – the first stop after the route goes onto the road having left St Werburgh’s Road. This is actually on Mauldeth Road West and this section of tramway opened on 3rd November 2014.

Before Metrolink came this is the view on 29th August 2010. Cars complete rule the roost at this time.

Things had changed significantly by 18th November 2014 (just 15 days after trams started running) with 3068 seen departing what is now Barlow Moor Road tramstop on the way to Manchester Airport. Whereas before it was cars everywhere, now they have to wait as the tram gets right of way on its dedicated section. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
