A team from Transport Infrastructure Ireland have recently paid a visit to the new Tyne and Wear Metro depot at South Gosforth on a fact finding mission. The delegation came as Dublin prepares to build its very first Metro system.
The group observed the facilities, features and layout of the redeveloped depot complex. They received a detailed tour of the depot including its stores, welfare facilities, control room, workshops and train stabling areas.
The visit was arranged to gather information and share knowledge as Dublin gets ready to start work on 9.5 billion Euro Metrolink network – the cost will include new trains, stations and a depot.
Work is due to start on the Dublin system next year with the first trains running in 2035. When it opens it is set to revolutionise mass transit in the Irish capital.
