Things on Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours will be different in 2024 with available trams being based out at Starr Gate Depot whilst the results of the Rigby Road condition survey are awaited. This means that Event/Enhanced Weekends will see fewer trams in service with the first of these due to take place over the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 25th to Monday 27th May.
This will be an Event Weekend and the highlight for many will be the hop-on, hop-off timetable – one of the rare occasions when this runs during the calendar year as opposed to the Promenade and Coastal Tours.
Whilst we’ve become used to this using five or six trams, it will obviously see fewer trams used this year with the limited capacity for heritage cars at Starr Gate. Its been confirmed that the Spring Bank Holiday weekend should see four trams in service on each day, once again each tram will be allocated a letter so it can be matched to the timetable (link to this is at the end of the article). Details of which tram will run which letter’s diagram will follow closer to the date.
There will be five trips from Pleasure Beach to Fleetwood on each day. Whichever tram is allocated as tram C or D will make two trips with tram A also heading to the northern extremity. Tram B will be confined to the section to Little Bispham.
Probably the highlight of the timetable will be the ability to travel on all four trams back to Starr Gate at the end of the day. When heritage trams are based at Rigby Road its not often they run in passenger service onto New South Promenade. This will include tram A running a full length journey from Fleetwood to Starr Gate departing at 1715 and back at Starr Gate at 1810.
As well as the hop-on, hop-off timetable there are planned to be tours of Starr Gate Depot (more details of these to follow), a Fish & Chips Tour on Friday 24th May and a Ghost Tram Tour on Saturday 25th May. In addition there will be heritage bus tour to Lytham departing from North Pier at 1115 on Saturday 25th and 1315 on Sunday 26th May.
