In Pictures: West Midlands Metro trackwork preparation

Construction work on the West Midlands Metro is hardly outstanding news as with various extensions still being built it’s a matter of course that it will be happening. But alongside the work on expanding the system there is also some general trackwork on the existing lines which is required and it looks set to see track relaid through a few of the stops.

Preparation for this has started at West Bromwich Central, Kenrick Park, The Hawthorns and Soho Benson Road. This has seen sections of the pedestrian crossings being removed so that an inspection of the track can take place ahead of the new rails being put down.

55 is seen here arriving at The Hawthorns on the way north to Wolverhampton Railway Station. The tram is about to go over the pedestrian crossing – you can see where the block paving has been removed here for an inspection to take place and has now been replaced.

More of the block paving has been removed at West Bromwich Central. 48 stands at the stop going to Wolverhampton. (Both Photographs by Andy Walters)

metro alliance need to focus on the grass area at Edgbaston Village as the grass is very muddy and looks very messy,
