Free travel for the armed forces on Metrolink and West Midlands Metro this Remembrance Weekend

Serving and former members of the military will be able to enjoy free travel on both Manchester Metrolink and West Midlands Metro services this weekend as they attend Remembrance services to honour the fallen from the two world wars and other conflicts. This follows on from the previous announcement that the same offer would be available on Edinburgh Trams.

For both Metrolink and the West Midlands Metro the offer is available on both Armistice Day, Saturday 11th November, and Remembrance Sunday, 12th November, as a gesture of thanks to war veterans and those still serving in the Armed Forces.

In Manchester (which also extends to Bee Network bus services) the offer is available to any serving personnel in uniform or with proof of a military ID card, veterans wearing medals or veterans badge and cadets in uniform attending services over the weekend.

The free travel on the West Midlands Metro will be given to those wearing their uniform or medals or who can show their services ID.

In addition on Manchester Metrolink, M5000 3020 – named Lancashire Fusilier – will also have poppy wreaths displayed in its drivers cabs and all tram services will pause at 1100 on both days (when safe to do so) to observe a two minutes silence.

Members of the Armed Forces are already able to travel free off-peak on Manchester Metrolink as part of TfGM’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
