Stop by Stop Edinburgh Trams: Newhaven extension – The Shore

Onwards we go as we travel along Edinburgh Trams’ Newhaven extension. We have now reached the fourth stop on the line at The Shore.

Not long after we depart from Port of Leith we are getting ready to curve round once again, this time to the right. We’re now on Ocean Way and we soon run through the historic Constitution Street gates which used to be the entrance/exit to the old docks (before the redevelopment as industry changed) and we’re then on Constitution Street. We are sharing the road with other traffic but on the whole it remains quiet until we come to a junction with Baltic Street and Bernard Street. After crossing that (with the Robert Burns statue on the right) we then pull into The Shore tramstop which seems to be hemmed in from both sides.

Again we have an island platform here and it has everything we’ve seen on the other platforms so far. As mentioned above we do seem rather hemmed in here with buildings on both sides, including the Old Assembly Rooms on the left and restaurants and cafes on the other side.

With buildings on both sides of the tracks we see 266 pulling into The Shore tramstop on its way to the Airport. Just visible (peering over the top of the passenger information display on the platform) is the Robert Burns statue.

The second photo features 257 which calls at the opposite side of the platform face as it heads up to Newhaven. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior, 2nd July 2023)
