Out and About: Manchester Metrolink around Victoria – June 2023

This instalment of “Out and About” is in Manchester as we take a look at a few trams running on Metrolink around Victoria Station.

Victoria is a busy stop with services from Altrincham, Bury, Piccadilly, Rochdale, East Didsbury and the terminating Airport service all running through the area. It’s a tram to East Didsbury that is pictured in this photo with 3106 about to depart.

The centre track at Victoria is served by the Manchester Airport service. 3123 was in action on that route when captured on camera here.

3132 pulls into the stop from Bury with a service for Piccadilly. The Bury line is both served by trams from Piccadilly and Altrincham. (All Photographs by Ken Jones, 21st June 2023)

    Now there’s a rarity, a team to Piccadilly! It’s astonishing how poor the service frequency is between the two main railway stations. If your transfer time for a connecting train is less than 40 minutes you probably won’t make it. My last two attempts resulted in waits at Victoria of over 20 minutes. Very poor.
