Pop Pay As You Go minimum top up reduced

Nexus have lowered the minimum top-up amount on the Pop Pay As You Go card following customer feedback. Users now only need to put £5 on for a top-up (the minimum used to be £10) with the hope that this will encourage even more people to switch over to start using the money saving product.

Pop Pay As You Go is available as both a Smartcard and on Android Google Pay and gives a saving of £1 a day when compared with paper tickets.

Nearly a third of all journeys on the Tyne and Wear Metro are now made using a Pop card with this number being at its highest ever level. Nexus believe that this figure will increase even further with this reduction in minimum top-up.

Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, said: “Pop cards are the cheapest and most convenient way to pay for Metro travel, and customers only need to add £5 to their card to get started. We’ve lowered the minimum top up from £10 to £5 as this is something that our customers said that they wanted to see.

“Pop is the best product to travel on Metro and we recommend that customers make the switch even if they travel only once a week or less. Getting a free Pop card is really easy, either by applying for one online from the Nexus website or through Google Pay if you have an Android smartphone.”
