Another lengthy closure of Eccles line amongst latest Metrolink engineering works to be announced

There will be no trams running between Weaste and Eccles for just over two months from mid-July as more major engineering works take place on the Manchester Metrolink network. Work will get underway on Saturday 15th July with trams not set to resume until Friday 22nd September.

It has been known for a while that there would be another major closure on the Eccles line this summer with further work to replace the track required but this is the first confirmation of exactly when and where it will be. During this period (15th July to 21st September) all trams from Ashton will run as far as Weaste with replacement buses in operation for the remainder of the route between Weaste and Eccles. These trams will run via MediaCityUK as normal except for on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July when further works take place on the short spur.

The current planned Metrolink engineering works over the next few months are as follows:

Sunday 14th May

  • A network wide shutdown will mean trams will not leave depots until 0900. A full Sunday service should be back running by 1030.
  • No replacement buses or ticket acceptance will be in place

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June

  • No trams between Ashton and Cornbrook
  • Trams from Eccles will only run as far as Cornbrook
  • Replacement buses will run

Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July

  • No trams will run between Eccles and Weaste or to MediaCityUK
  • Trams from Ashton will run as far as Weaste but will not serve MediaCityUK
  • Replacement buses will run

Monday 17th July to Thursday 21st September

  • No trams will run between Eccles and Weaste
  • Trams from Ashton will run to Weaste via MediaCityUK
  • Replacement buses will run
