Metro colleagues mark International Women’s Day

The contribution women are making to the successful operation of West Midlands Metro was celebrated at an event to mark International Women’s Day on 8th March. From driving trams to managing the diverse workforce of over 250 employees women are playing a key role on the West Midlands Metro at a time of major expansion.

Female colleagues at West Midlands Metro were invited to a special breakfast at Wednesbury Depot to reflect on, and celebrate, how the transport sector has changed in recent years.

Sophie Allison, is the first female boss of the Metro, and she said: “With women in all departments within Metro, I am proud that we are increasing diversity and the representation of women in all areas of the business. The light rail industry is traditionally a male-dominated sector, but it now offers a wealth of career opportunities for women who are enjoying success in very senior roles. This trend is set to continue, and within our own team I am proud to work alongside women who represent a diverse mix of ethnic backgrounds, nationalities and religions. As we are looking towards the opening of new extensions, culture, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, race or religion will never be barriers to a rewarding career within the Metro team.”
