2023 is a key year for a couple of the trams under the auspices of the Southampton Tram Project and to help them celebrate their special birthdays there is to be a special event at the Solent Sky museum in June again this year. Having taken place last year, the Solent Sky Tram Event 2023 will be taking place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June 2023.
The Southampton Tram Project moved to the Solent Sky Museum in August 2020 with their three trams which are located in a special restoration workshop. The three trams are Southampton 11, Southampton 38 and Lisbon 715 with restoration work on the former the most advanced of the trio (the roof has been where efforts have been concentrated recently).
This year marks the centenary of 11 and the 120th anniversary of 38 and the event will give you the opportunity to wish them both a very happy birthday. 11 is a domed roof car whilst 38 is a similar car to Crich’s 45.
During the weekend of this event there will be at least a dozen model tramway and railway layouts (ranging from N gauge to 1:16 scale), trade stands and local historical society stands. There will also be cake to help celebrate the birthdays!
Solent Sky is not all about the trams and anyone visiting the Solent Sky Tram Event will also be able to see the 20+ aircraft on site alongside the Hampshire Police and Fire Heritage Collection which is housed there.
