Crich Photo line-ups: Horse Trams – 2013

Back to Crich for another edition of our series looking at some of the photo line-ups on the depot fan. We have previously a line-up of horse cars but we have time for another one which included five trams.

Once again this line-up – which happened on 14th September 2013 – was part of the Enthusiasts’ Day. As 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the first horse tram operation at Crich this line-up was done to commemorate that and included all of the horse cars which at the museum at this time – including two double-deckers which hadn’t ever – and still haven’t – carried passengers during their time at the museum. The five to feature were Chesterfield 8, Oporto 9, Sheffield 15, Cardiff 21 and Leeds 107.

Leeds 107 had only recently arrived at Crich having been restored by the Leeds Transport Historical Society and is seen on the far left of this line-up. The three single deckers come next with regular operational tram Sheffield 15, then Oporto 9 and Chesterfield 8. Cardiff 21 is on the far side. This line-up is now not possible with the Cardiff double-decker having returned home in 2021. (Photograph by Hazel Quarmby)
