Crich Photo line-ups: Sheffield Trams – 2008

We remain in Yorkshire for today’s line-up of trams at Crich but its back to 2008 to see some of the Sheffield trams in the collection together around the depot.

This line-up took place during Enthusiasts Day on 27th September 2008 and saw several of the Sheffield trams in the collection briefly posed together on the depot fan. It was only a mini Sheffield line-up featuring four of the electric passenger trams at Crich with Works Car 330 also out on the depot fan but not alongside the four double deckers.

So far in this series we haven’t shown the formation of the line-ups but part of the excitement on the day is seeing the trams being gently moved into position. Often using the electric tug PAT1 this sees withdrawn and stored trams towed out of the depots and or Exhibition Hall – sometimes with a little bit of coercing! This photo is at the front of the Exhibition Hall and shows us three Sheffield trams – one of which wasn’t to be part of the line-up but was being shunted out the way. Alongside are stored Sheffield pair 189 and 264. (Photograph by Gareth Prior)

A little bit later and the four main trams of the line-up are seen together in the early autumn sunshine. From left to right we have 74, 189, 264 and 510. (Photograph by Hazel Quarmby)
