Trams &: Sunderland 16 & bus

“Trams &” continues today as we take a look at some of the varied exhibits at Beamish: The Living Museum of the North.

This image was captured on 27th August 2022 and is at the Entrance/Exit at Beamish with a tram heading in one direction and a bus heading in the other. The bus – in the cream and blue livery of Darlington Corporation – is Daimler CV5G no. 4. It was built in 1964 and was operational in its home town until 1981. Preserved following this it was moved to Beamish entering service in 2019.

The tram seen in this image is Sunderland 16. A fully enclosed double decker dating from 1900, the tram was restored and re-entered service at Beamish in 2003. It’s a well used tram each year with it being the highest capacity fully enclosed tramcar so very useful for the slightly cooler months occasionally experienced in the northeast of England.

  1. Michael Morton says:

    Of course, 16 + 4 = 20 for your 20 years’ celebration.
    A good choice indeed!
