Around the World in Trams: Vienna 2597 & 4042+1442

We move from Switzerland to Austria for this week’s edition of “Around the World in Trams” as we visit Vienna for the first of several views of the tramway in the Austrian capital.

Taken on 19th May 2012 this photo was taken at Karlspatz and shows the old, the new and a bus – three (or four as there’s a trailer involved!) for the price of one! Closest to the camera is Wiener Linien class L1 2597 which was out of the Erdberg museum on a private hire. Built in 1929 this tram has been part of the museum fleet since 1973 and remains operational with forays out in service. The other trams seen here are E2 motor 4042 and class C trailer 1442 – both of these remain in service as well.

In between the trams is gas powered Graf & Stift bus 8417.
