Edinburgh Trams staff given You are Tramtastic awards for excellent performance

Two members of staff at Edinburgh Trams have been given “You are Tramtastic” awards for their actions in assisting vulnerable members of the public when out on the tram network.

Michael Goodfellow, a tram driver, was rewarded after he received news that an elderly customer had fallen and badly hurt her wrists. Michael received advice from the emergency services while helping to keep the lady calm and managed to gather more information about their background which allowed them to contact their relatives on Facebook.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “Thanks to Michael’s first aid skills and calmness under pressure, the person was able to return home safely and is now recovering from their injuries. I’m sure both the customer and their family are eternally grateful for the actions he performed on the day.”

In addition, Flor San Jose Fernandez, a Ticketing Service Assistant, has been praised for comforting another elderly customer who had fallen on the tram when travelling along with their partner to Edinburgh Airport. On reaching Departures Flor remained with the couple for up to two hours after her shift had finished to ensure the customer was in good condition for onward travel.

Lea commented: “Michael and Flor certainly did go beyond the call of duty; their exceptional response to these incidents came as no surprise, and they have earned them the respect of colleagues in the workplace”
