3141 enters service on Metrolink – involved in collision on first day!

As entries into service go it was particularly spectacular for Manchester Metrolink 3141 as just a few hours into its operating career in Manchester it was involved in a collision with a bus on Princess Street in the city centre!

3141 – which had been delivered on 14th May 2022 – was allocated to service for the first time on Friday 17th June and was operating on the East Didsbury to Rochdale route when its collision happened.

The tram was East Didsbury bound when it came into contact with the rear and side of a Stagecoach bus (no. 19263 on route 197) on Princes Street. Damage to the tram was said to be minor and there were no injuries reported.

Friday 17th June was another of those days where multiple incidents occurred on the Metrolink network as there was also a collision at Chorlton with one tram running into the back of another (again minor damage and no injuries) whilst services on the Ashton line were disrupted during the afternoon because of a police incident which saw no trams able to running between Piccadilly and Clayton Hall.
