Picture in Time: Seaton Tramway 12

We take another trip to the Seaton Tramway on 28th August 1995 for this instalment of “Picture in Time”.

Pictured in this article is the middle incarnation for no. 12 – the most heavily rebuilt tram in the Seaton Tramway fleet. Starting off life in 1966 as a single deck saloon car it had been rebuilt as a double deck open topper in 1980 and it is this style that we see the tram in this view. Featuring a green and off white livery, despite the fact it didn’t have the streamlined shape at first glance it could easily be confused with a Blackpool Open Top Balloon and would remain in this condition until 1999 when it became the world’s first – and only! – open top Feltham car.

This photo shows 12 having just departed from the loading stop at Colyton and now running along the length of the platform at this former railway station.
