Increased service frequency on West Midlands Metro

The gradual increase of services on the West Midlands Metro has continued with trams now running up to every 10 minutes for the bulk of the day. This now means that six trams an hour will be running between Library and Wolverhampton St George’s, which whilst still not at full service level is a step in the right direction.

As everyone is likely to be fully aware the reduced service has been in operation because of tram shortages caused by cracks which were discovered last November leading to the complete suspension of service for a month late last year whilst repairs took place before a reduced service was initiated.

In a statement West Midlands Metro said: “Thank you for your understanding while we have worked tirelessly alongside the tram manufacturer to carry out the permanent repairs required on several of our trams. Although this work will continue for some time, we have reached a point where enough trams have been returned to the fleet to enable us to offer a more frequent service to all stops.”

Trams are now running every 10 minutes until 1900 Monday to Saturday and until 1800 on Sundays after which time it will be every 15 minutes.
