Stop by Stop Nottingham Express Transit: Central – Nottingham Station

We return to Nottingham Express Transit for our next set of “Stop by Stop” as we feature the 13 stops which are in the “central area” of the tramway between Nottingham Station and Wilkinson Street. And we start off with Nottingham Station.

Situated on the viaduct which takes the tramway above Nottingham Railway Station, the stop at Nottingham Station was the first part of NET phase two to open with the first passengers being welcomed on 27th July 2015 (around a month before the rest of phase two started running). It replaced the previous terminus at Station Street (located just to the north of the current stop). With access to the railway station in two places, the stop has platforms either side of the tracks and features cover along the full length of both platforms. It also has the standard features of stops on NET – ticket machines, validators, electronic next tram displays, CCTV, information panels etc.

Nottingham Station tramstop taken looking towards the city centre. Trams from Toton Lane and Clifton South climb up the viaduct from behind the photographer. The old platforms of Station Street can be seen in the distance (roughly where the NET logo is seen on the white tower).

223 just arrives at the stop with a service heading into the city centre. The signage on the platform shows the then Covid restrictions in place on the network with this photo dating from September 2020.

Running through to Toton Lane this is 219 calling at Nottingham Station. (All Photographs by Gareth Prior, 19th September 2020)
