The East Anglia Transport Museum have now released details of their special events programme for the 2012 season, and in a pleasing move there are more events planned than usual as the museum attempts to capitalise on a number of notable anniversaries.
The outline schedule is as follows:
Good Friday 6th + Easter Saturday 7th April: Newcastle Trolleybus weekend
Sunday 22nd April 2012: Classic & Vintage day
Sunday 6th + Monday 7th May: The London Event
Sunday 27th May: EATM at 40
Saturday 16th + Sunday 17th June: ECW Event 2012
Saturday 8th + Sunday 9th September: Trolleybus Gala Weekend
Of particular note are the one-off event planned for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend which has been organised mainly to commemorate 50 years since the closure of London’s extensive trolleybus network, but also the 60th anniversary of London’s last tram. It is expected that several visiting trolleybuses will join the Museum’s own large collection of vehicles from the capital city, which of course include tramcar London Transport 1858.
Another potentially exciting one-off event is being held later the same month, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Museum itself. Not much information is available yet regarding what this will involve, but the various trams on site are sure to play an important part in this special occasion. Another highlight will be the annual trolleybus weekend in September, which includes the one and only chance to experience the Museum after dark on Saturday 8th September.
