Picture in Time: Krefeld 412

In this latest edition of “Picture in Time” we are taking a trip to a location you don’t usually associate with a tram – the Great Central Railway North Ruddington.

The city of Krefeld in Germany is twinned with Leicester and during the 1990s two trams from Germany were donated to the City of Leicester – motor 412 and trailer 41. Upon arrival in the UK and with a proposed tramway in Abbey Park not being progressed they found themselves having a rather uncertain time with various periods in outside storage including at both the Great Central Railway and the Great Central Railway North. The motor found its way down in Walthamstow before it was acquired by the North East Electrical Traction Trust and was moved to the North East Land Sea and Air Museum near Sunderland in 2013.

This photo shows 412 during its period at the Great Central Railway North in Ruddington with some evidence of body rust seen on the roof section. This was 6th July 2006.
