In Pictures: Continued developments at Ocean Terminal

Work on the construction of the Edinburgh Trams extension to Newhaven is continuing at what appears to be a good pace and in this latest pictorial update we take a look at recent developments around Ocean Terminal. With a major shopping centre and tourist attractions – such as the Royal Yacht Britannia – in the area this looks set to be one of the busiest stops on the new line and recent work here has been concentrating on the installation of a crossover as well as the start of work on the platform. John Hampton made the trip to record the latest progress.

A crossover is being installed at Ocean Terminal which will allow trams to be turned short here rather than going all the way through to Newhaven.

Preliminary work has started on the construction of the island tramstop at Ocean Terminal.

A section of the old seawall has been unearthed in Melrose Drive which was built in about 1860. It is about 200 metres inshore from the current seawall. The tramway at this point in Melrose Drive will be built on land that has been reclaimed. (All Photographs by John Hampton)
