Punctuality and reliability fluctuate on Metrolink

With two periods worth of stats released as part of the latest Manchester Metrolink performance figures it would be fair to say there is a fluctuating picture for anyone who has been travelling on the network as it very much up one period, down the other, then up again! These stats cover the eight week period between 7th February and 31st March 2021.

Punctuality

Trams departing less than 2 minutes late

Period 12 (7th February to 6th March) – 92.8%

Period 13 (7th March to 31st March) – 94.4%

Previous period 94.6%

Highest performing line over the joint period 12 and 13 – East Didsbury 97.7%

Lowest performing line over the joint period 12 and 13 – Oldham and Rochdale 90.1%

Reliability

Planned miles operated

Period 12 (7th February to 6th March) – 95.5%

Period 13 (7th March to 31st March) – 97.1%

Previous period 97.4%

Highest performing line over the joint period 12 and 13 – Airport and Trafford Park 99.5%

Lowest performing line over the joint period 12 and 13 – Eccles 93.4%

0.40% of journeys were cancelled (previous period 0.59%) and 1% of journeys were considered incomplete (previous period 0.42%). The much lower figure for short journeys can probably be explained by the St Peter’s Square disruption on a couple of occasions due to a police incident and a protest.
