Major disruption for Metrolink after Police incident at St Peter’s Square

All Manchester Metrolink services running through St Peter’s Square (the vast majority of service do of course) were seriously disrupted from the evening of Saturday 27th February until late morning on Sunday 28th February after a major Police incident. According to reports in the press the incident involved two cars and gun fire although fortunately there were no injuries reported.

For Metrolink the incident meant that trams were unable to run through St Peter’s Square from approximately 2030 on Saturday 27th February until late on the following morning. As a result the following services were able to run on Saturday evening:

Altrincham to Cornbrook

Ashton-under-Lyne to Piccadilly

Bury to Piccadilly

East Didsbury to Firswood

Eccles to Cornbrook

Manchester Airport to Firswood

Rochdale Town Centre to Exchange Square

Trafford Park to Cornbrook

The pattern was slightly revised on the Sunday morning with trams from Altrincham, East Didsbury and Eccles extended through to Deansgate-Castlefield.

As for the serious incident the Police arrested three teenagers aged 15, 17 and 19on driving and firearms offences. Suspected drugs were also found.
