DLR extension would cost £1billion

A recent feasibility study undertaken for Greenwich Council into a possible extension of the Docklands Light Railway to Falconwood has shown that it would cost £1 billion to construct, including another tunnel under the River Thames.

The extension has been a long held ambition of the Council and would include an eight stop line running from Silvertown across the river by a tunnel before crossing Woolwich Road, running up the Sun and the Sands, then on to Kidbrooke, Eltham Railway Station and terminating at Falconwood.

The report has shown that there will be several problems with the extension with the Woolwich Road flyover and Eltham tunnel and these are described as very difficult to overcome. Despite this the report does conclude that the extension would be good for the area.
