More Metrolink extension works to start

The ongoing scheme to extend Metrolink across more of Greater Manchester will see
road closures and changes in Wythenshawe and Oldham from the start of next week. In Wythenshawe road closures will last for ten weeks from Monday 5th March whilst in Oldham there will be road changes for at least eight weeks.

Starting in Wythenshawe it has been announced that the junction of Rowlandsway and
Poundswick Lane will be closed from Monday 5th March. This closure will allow MPT to start laying tracks whilst they will also install new traffic signals. Traffic diversions will be put into place during the works and the outbound 18 and 105 bus services will no longer serve the Forum.

From Tuesday 6th March there will be changes to access on Union Street in Oldham for eight weeks to allow utility diversion work to take place. Any traffic heading from Peter Street will not be able to access Union Street for the duration of the work. It is also likely that the area will remain closed after the utility diversion work is completed to allow track laying to take place Traffic diversions will also be put in place for the duration of the work.

It is planned that Metrolink will reach Wythenshawe as part of the Manchester Airport
line in 2016 whilst Oldham Town Centre should be reached in 2014.
