We are back to Blackpool tonight for the latest “Picture in Time” and its another outing for the Works Cars in 1994.
Last week we saw Works Brush 259 in Thornton Gate Permanent Way Yard and this photo is taken on the same day, 14th April 1994, as the tram goes along North Promenade heading south at Warley Road. The tram is actually propelling Rail Crane 260 which is fitted with a crane. There is also a length of rail on the trailer in this shot.
We met 259 properly last week so let us take a look at the trailer in a bit more detail this time out. 260 was once also a Brush Car with it being converted from no. 291 (latterly 628) in 1973, with it having been withdrawn as a passenger tram in 1969. Originally numbered 751, in 1986 it would receive the number 260 which is the number it retained until the end. Still existing at Rigby Road it is now stored and hasn’t been used for quite a number of years.
