Trams to Newhaven give overview of works for next month

The latest update from the Trams to Newhaven project team has given details of the planned works for the next month with Leith Walk, Ocean Drive and Constitution Street all the scenes of enabling, preparation and utility diversion work.

On Leith Walk it is enabling works which will be continuing with a city-bound running lane being created. A phased approach is being taken to try and minimise disruption as much as possible for both residents and businesses in the vicinity.

It is an earlier stage of work on Ocean Drive over the next month with preparation works taking place to the two roundabouts at Ocean Terminal with traffic management remaining in place.

Most of the work so far has been on Constitution Street and during February it will remain the case as well with Morrison Utility Services reportedly making good progress in excavating the road in preparation for utility diversions to start in earnest. There will be investigation works (trial holes) at different locations on the footpaths as well in order to confirm locations of the overhead poles when they come round to being erected. Work is also continuing on South Leith Parish Church wall with archaeological experts involved to make sure everything is logged.

There will be a public information event on Tuesday 4th February at Ocean Terminal between 1400 and 1900 and then another session on Tuesday 11th February at McDonald Road Library (Nelson Room) between 1400 and 1900. Both events will see members of the project available to answer questions and give information on the forthcoming planned works.
