Crich help out Seaton with track

You often hear mention of how this tramway helps out this tramway regularly and this has again been seen in action with the news that the Crich Tramway Village have supplied some surplus track to the Seaton Tramway to assist the Devon line with a track relay taking place during their off season.

Part of Seaton’s winter maintenance – which has quite a narrow window to be completed with both the Polar Express journeys in the lead up to Christmas and running between Christmas and the New Year – will see the road crossing at Colyford replaced. This level crossing was last relaid 30 years ago and the rail used at that time wasn’t new as it came from the tramway in Leeds so it is well due for renewal and that will soon be completed in partnership with Alan Keef Ltd. It is hoped this new rail will be good for the next 50 years!

With Crich having surplus rail available the two tramways joined together to provide a cost effective solution for the track relay and to this end a truck from Lawsons Haulage recently went to Derbyshire to load the rail and then deliver down to Seaton.

Once again a demonstration of how tramways across the UK work together ensuring that we have heritage trams to enjoy at a variety of locations.
