In Pictures: Work continues on Birmingham Westside extension

With further testing due to take place during October – and a service set to commence by the end of this year – how far advanced is work on the Birmingham Westside extension first phase as far as Centenary Square? Martin Miller took a trip on 4th October which shows work still continuing on completing this short extension.

With the extension due to the first to built without overhead this is where the wires end at the bottom of Pinfold Street. Trams from here will have to continue on battery power.

Looking up Pinfold Street where all track and surface now seems to be in place.

And looking back down Pinfold Street where at the top end there are still a few finishing works taking place.

Into Victoria Square by the Town Hall where the platform will be situated (see on top left here) and more finishing works are taking place alongside the tramway.

Here is a closer view of the platform with a lengthy shelter in place although other stop furniture is still awaited. (All Photographs by Martin Miller, 4th October 2019)
