Picture in Time: Docklands Light Railway 64

We head to the Docklands Light Railway again for this edition of Picture in Time with a view taken some 24 years ago.

Although the main point of interest in this photo is DLR unit 64 – a B92 unit built by BN Construction in Brugge as part of a batch between 1992 and 1995 – what immediately apparent is just how much this area has changed in the intervening 24 years with a lot of development having taken place. The photo was captured on 27th October 1995 and shows the train approaching Royal Victoria running from Beckton to Tower Gateway. On the left hand side we can see the North London line to North Woolwich – still operational at this time – whilst today the right hand side is dominated by the large Excel conference and exhibition centre.
