Rewiring continues on Railcoach 279

Work on the restoration at Brinwell Road of the Fylde Transport Trust’s Blackpool Railcoach 279 is continuing with contractors JRW having returned to the tram after a short break because of other commitments. This crucial phase of the restoration is making good progress with a view to its completion in the short-term ahead of further work in returning this long-lost tram type to the rails.

All of the old cabling was stripped out on the first day of the work with the next day the seeing the majority of the auxiliary wiring – including that for the interior lighting – put into place. After a short break the contractors have now returned to Blackpool to complete further work with the entire tram now recabled.

More detailed work including the labelling and fitting lugs to each new cable is now underway. This will end at a new junction box in each cab and once this is all done new cables will be fitted from the junction box to the controllers and resistances.
