Manx Electric Railway 125th Anniversary: Day 4 – Tuesday 4th September

The halfway point of the Manx Electric Railway 125th Anniversary events is reached tomorrow and it is hoped that it will be a day of the Crossbench with a special photo evening – weather permitting of course! Read on to find out more on what is scheduled to be taking place…

Pick of the Day

Crossbench Photography Evening

Four Crossbench Cars – 14, 16, 32 and 33 will be posed for photography at Laxey Station with parallel runs towards Minorca and South Cape using different combinations of trams.

Trams will leave Derby Castle between 1620 and 1650. (In event of poor weather enclosed trams may be substituted).

Normal fares apply.

Best of the Rest

Mail Tram Re-enactment

A typical 1970s era mail tram consisting of Winter Saloon, trailer and Mail Van 4 will re-enact a mail collection run between Ramsey and Douglas. This will be the first time since the mail service ended in 1975 that mail will be collected from the line side post boxes. A serving postman from IOM Post will accompany the tram, with MER staff in period uniform offering photographic opportunities.

The mail tram departs Ramsey at 1350.

Tram and Two Trailers

Car 33 will haul two trailers on a return trip between Derby Castle and Dhoon Quarry. Departs Derby Castle at 0900.

Timetable D is scheduled to be in operation throughout this day.

All the above events may be subject to change in cases of tram availability and weather. Pre-booking was required for several of the above events and availability on the day may not be possible, please check on the day to avoid disappointment. Please keep an eye on the Isle of Man Transport Facebook page or the Manx Electric Online Facebook page for any late changes to events.

There may be limited British Trams Online coverage on Facebook for this day, I should be arriving in the late afternoon but it will be touch and go if I get anywhere quickly enough to see the events!
