Overhead problems causes disruption for Metrolink

Its been Manchester Metrolink’s turn for disruption caused by overhead line problems with a section of overhead coming down at Cornbrook on Sunday 5th August. Fortunately it was only a Sunday and no trams are currently running onto the Eccles line but even so there was pretty major disruption during the day as repairs were undertaken.

The issue was first reported during the morning with no trams able to run through Cornbrook for several hours. During the disruption trams ran as follows:

Altrincham to Old Trafford

Ashton-under-Lyne to Piccadilly

Bury to Piccadilly (as per the normal Sunday timetable)

East Didsbury to Firswood

Manchester Airport to Firswood

Rochdale Town Centre to Exchange Square

Passengers for affected sections of the line were advised to travel either on local bus services or Northern Rail services.

The problem was fixed by 1600 to allow a normal service to resume, albeit with delays.
