Douglas Horse Tramway passenger figures show a fall

Douglas Borough Council have revealed that passenger numbers of the Horse Tramway  have fallen by 5% in 2012 with 53,318 passengers carried during the season which ended in September. This is the first fall seen in passenger numbers for four years.

It is not all doom and gloom for the tramway though as September saw a 22% increase in
passenger numbers with 6,820 passengers carried on board the trams.

Part of the reason for the overall decrease is because in 2011 the operating season was extended by a week for the Commonwealth Youth Games with the weather during the summer this year also said to be a factor.

Plans currently exist for the tracks to be moved as part of a major reconstruction of Douglas Promenade but confirmation of when and how this happen has not yet been
made.
