In Pictures: Trackwork starts at Crich

Whilst the main winter project at Crich may be concerned with refurbishing the depots that isn’t all that is going on with a volunteer led project to replace the single line section of track between the Bandstand and Wakebridge. This work started over the weekend of 11th and 12th November with good progress already being made as these photos from Peter Whiteley show.

In recent years major track replacement work at the home of the National Tramway Museum has seen contractors being brought into complete the work. However, the recent formation of a Permanent Way team at the museum has allowed this project to be brought in house with the obvious cost savings associated with this being just one advantage.

The first stage of the project will see all the track removed from this section before the ballast will be replaced ahead of the laying of new track.

It was nice to see that 4 of the 9 were young members. The curve in the middle and the short length into wakebridge will remain as this was replaced some years ago.

Really pleasing to see such a high level of on site investment over the winter shutdown period on number of different fronts at Crich.
