Picture in Time: Blackpool Balloons

Having gone 30 years into the past last week, this week we go even further back in time as we have an image taken 50 years ago in the summer of 1967.

This is Tower on a wet summer’s day in 1967 with the on duty inspector looking north along the track surveying the scene. Two unidentified Balloon Cars are standing at the northbound and southbound stops both carrying the 1960s style fleet livery. The northbound tram is running through to Bispham and has been updated to include a single destination indicator (making it very easy to work out where it is going!) Meanwhile the southbound tram is one of the Balloon Cars which has yet to receive the single indicators. In the distance another Balloon Car is heading south.
