In Pictures: Work starts on installing Wolverhampton City Centre points

Over the past few weeks a good amount of preparation work has been underway for the start of the construction of the Wolverhampton City Centre extension of Midland Metro and now the first real signs of progress can be seen. The extension will be leaving the current line at Piper’s Row from where it will travel to a new interchange at Wolverhampton Railway Station. Photos from Andy Walters.

Looking towards The Royal this first view shows that track has been removed in readiness for the installation of the points.

An aerial view of the worksite.

Sleepers are unloaded.

One final view. The basic alignment of the new track can be seen with the yellow lines. (All Photographs by Andy Walters)
