In Pictures: T69 16’s name lives on…

The one remaining T69 at Wednesbury Depot is the last to have run in service – 16. 16 was named Gerwyn John in November 2005 but as with all withdrawn T69s it soon had its nameplates removed but it has never been worked out just where the plates went. Well one of the plates from 16 has now resurfaced – being used as part of a headboard at the Severn Valley Railway!

On a recent visit to the Severn Valley Railway our usual Midland Metro contributor Andy Walters was surprised to discover a special headboard carried Western diesel locomotive D1062 Western Courier. It read:

The Last – T69 – Tram 16

1951 Gerwyn John 2004

It also includes a head on shot of 16 and the name Gerwyn John is actually one of the original nameplates removed from 16.

Sometimes you see mentions of trams in the strangest places!
