Picture in Time: Snaefell Mountain Railway 3

The latest edition of Picture in Time heads back to the Isle of Man for some views of Snaefell Mountain Railway 3 in recent times.

Snaefell Mountain Railway 3 was built in 1895 by G F Milnes of Birkenhead and has remained as a valuable member of the operating fleet for most of the following 120 years although has spent periods out of use for overhauls and other workshop attention. It did suffer a fire at Laxey in 2014 which resulted in damage to the tram and an overhaul which had only been completed towards the end of the 2015 season. Of course no. 3 has been in the headlines recently following the runaway incident from the Summit to Bungalow which resulted in severe damage but it will return to the rails in the future following the news that Isle of Man Railways are planning to rebuild the tram.

Our first view shows the car at Bunaglow on 26th July 2013.

The second image is of 3 standing at the Summit on 27th July 2013.

And we end with another image of the tram this time looking at the interior as it waits at the Summit.
