In Pictures: Bluebird in the Workshop

As we have previously reported London County Council 1, or Bluebird if you prefer, saw its roof removed in a special operation by the main museum entrance at Crich on Friday 11th March. Of note during this the shunting was undertaken by the Croydon Tramlink KLV vehicle 058 making it a real capital operation.

After the roof had been removed 1 was returned to the Workshop and now resembled just a shell with almost all panelling having been removed as the extensive cataloguing of all aspects of the tram starts to come to a conclusion. Just one day after the roof was off 1 was joined by another London tram with London County Council 106 present for commissioning ahead of the new season. You could in fact say there were two open top London trams in situ on this day although one will receive its top again over the next few years.

The Workshop at Crich on 12th March with London County Council 106 at the front and London County Council 1 and Glasgow 22 at the rear.

Further into the workshop and we see 22 and 1. Note how much of a shell 1 now looks and some of its panels are stored temporarily in front of 22. (Both Photographs by Hazel Quarmby)
