Wanted: a Brill 21E axle box for Glasgow 1017. Can you help Summerlee?

The casting on the original axle box on Glasgow 1017 at the Summerlee Heritage Museum has recently cracked and a new casting has proven difficult to source. Can anyone help Summerlee to source a new Brill 21E axle box? If so please either leave a comment below or email gareth@britishtramsonline.co.uk and we will pass it on the team at Scotland’s only museum tramway.

  1. Frank Gradwell says:

Given modern progress in casting technology using plastic based moulds, might this be an occasion where the reduced costs of producing moulds by this means rather than timber formers is a long term remedy to re-creating long out of production items?

  2. Steve says:

What is interesting is that the tram’s proper truck is still in existence as it was bought for Leicester 76, under which it still is.
